Mustafa Malik
Mustafa is the Chief Executive of the Pakistani Youth and Community Association, based in Leicester. He has been active in the community since 1993, when he started working towards improving the well- being and welfare of the local BME groups. Improving training opportunities and employability, up- skilling individuals and offering support to those in need are only a few of the contributions Mustafa has made in his community. When talking about the driving force behind his community activism, Mustafa states: `When I came to the UK, I didn`t receive the appropriate advice and support; if I had I would have made different choices. I don`t want people to go through what I did and I want to make sure the local communities are well informed and guided, with the appropriate resources and support`. Therefore, he considers the lack of funding and poor service delivery to be two of the biggest problems BME communities are confronted with.
