Joe Allen
Joe has been an activist of the BME community in Leicester since the 1970s, when he started advocating community cohesion. Following his motto, `Fellowship for Life,` he has worked towards improving race relations and campaigned for political change and local policy development. He was the first elected African Caribbean Chair of the Community Regional Fund Awards Committee, distributing `87 million worth of funding across the East Midlands region. Working within the community has always been a big part of Joe`s life, but he considers that BME communities still `need support, education and a voice`. As making a difference in people`s lives is a `natural part` of Joe`s existence, he is proud of having attracted funding for the East Midlands, which has had an invaluable impact for the community. As a reward for his incredible work, in September 2013, Joe was made an Honorary Alderman of the City of Leicester.
